The Story

Top Gun Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is the long-awaited sequel to the iconic 1986 film, Top Gun. Starring Tom Cruise as the legendary naval aviator Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, the movie takes viewers on an adrenaline-fueled journey through the high-stakes world of fighter pilots. Packed with thrilling aerial sequences, the film not only appeals to aviation enthusiasts but also captures the hearts of fans who grew up with the original film.

Recognizing the importance of catering to a diverse audience, Paramount Pictures specifically aimed to engage young Latino viewers. This demographic group represents a significant portion of the movie-going population and possesses strong cultural ties that resonate with the themes explored in Top Gun Maverick. By understanding the unique interests and preferences of this audience, our agency worked closely with Paramount to create a tiktok campaign that would captivate and inspire young Latinos.

The Strategies

icon

ESTABLISH Cultural Relevance: Incorporate elements of Latino culture and references that resonate with the target audience – In this case we used the famous ‘Chancla’ a term commonly used among Latinos, particularly in Latin American and Hispanic cultures, to refer to a slipper or a sandal. However, beyond its literal meaning, "chancla" holds a significant cultural connotation. In many Latino households, the "chancla" has gained a humorous and symbolic reputation as a disciplinary tool. The mere mention of the word "chancla" can evoke memories and experiences within the Latino community, as it represents a humorous and relatable aspect of upbringing and familial dynamics.

LEVERAGE Humor and Creativity: As demonstrated by our agency's successful approach, using humor is an effective way to engage audiences on TikTok. By creating humorous twists on scenes and quotes from the movie, we captured the attention of the Latino community and generate shareable content.

HIGHLIGHT TikTok Features: Take advantage of TikTok's unique features to create engaging and interactive content. The "duet" feature was used to split the screen to create a sense of interaction, and in this case it’s what we used to give the humorous twist to our videos
