My time in Guatemala last week was brief, but very impactful. Our agency rallied this past month (arguably our busiest) to make this happen. We raised over $3,000 so far for the church/school, which is an amazing start. We were able to put together Quarantine Kits for the families of Casa De Gracia, provide a little extra help for few families that are going through an even more difficult time, provide masks for anyone in need of them, and pay for some bills for the church/school.
Many of these families live in not so good conditions to begin with, so quarantining has posed a different challenge for them than the one we’re used to. As a parent, I worry about my children. I think we all do. Often times, it’s a worry that isn’t rational or even warranted. But these parents have a deep concern for the health and safety of their children, things that we take for granted. Many of them are out of work, out of money, and out of choices.
As I listened to first hand accounts of what these people have gone through this year, they always ended with the same statement “… Pero gracias a Dios por los pastores y por Casa De Gracia.” The translation: “But, thank God for the pastors and for Casa De Gracia.”
Casa De Gracia has shown up for this community time and time again. This year (the toughest year) was not the exception. This is only the beginning. We still need your help! Our next goal is to take care of some of the bigger ticket items:
- 9 families need new homes
- Medical Supplies
- A small truck to help bring in supplies from the capital
- New desks and chairs for 31 students
- Shoes and clothes 20 families (@80 children/@30 adults)
We can’t change everything that is wrong in the world. But we CAN change some things. So, let’s use what we have to change what we can.
